Day Note: Sept 9th

Published by Oleander Craw in writing Share

My partner pointed out the first leaves turning colors on the trees yesterday. I don't know about you, but I'm super ready for fall. As much as I love my garden, I'm ready to be done with the daily maintenance and avalanche of veggies. Plus I'm down an arm, which has made things a little difficult lately across the board.

FOCUS: Copy edits for The Wards Will Fall. I'm happy to say I finished these this morning and sent everything off to my agent! I'm glad I waited to finish the last little bit today, because it ended up being more work than I expected because it also required me to think more seriously on how I wanted to set up Book 2.

But it's done! So now the rest of the day is going to be for my occupational therapy and orthopedic appointment, and tidying the house.

PROCESS & SUCH: Woke up at 5:15am this morning, took a shower and got right into edits. I didn't sprint, which was a mistake because I was super unfocused and ended up spending time on some website bugs and a couple other things that truly could have waited until later.

This just reaffirmed to me that I need to be better about sticking to my sprints and focusing ONLY on writing during that time. I actually do get a decent amount done when I'm focused. But at any rate, I had everything wrapped up by 10am. Huzzah.

WATCHING: Tuesday evenings are for watching my terrible boat show, Below Deck, and all the associated spin offs. I love me some reality TV, and Below Decks is my perennial favorite (next to Jersey Shore).

LISTENING: A friend mentioned stumbling on the band Kiss Facility (Bandcamp link here), who have a lyrical Arabic shoegaze album out called KHAZNA. Listened to this some of yesterday and today while editing and their music is definitely going in my writing rotation. Gorgeous, moody, and immediately put my brain into the right spot to focus.

READING: Still reading Hellbound (Bookshop, Amazon, Kobo). Really having a good time with this book. Digging the hell cosmic horror and weird hell house situation. I'll have more time this week now that copy edits are wrapped up to focus on reading, so looking forward to finishing this one.

LINK: Nathan Fielder is a comedian who makes TV shows that are pure suffering and I eat them up. I discovered that he is releasing a documentary about Elizabeth Holmes that looks like absolute hell. I can't wait to watch.

UP NEXT: Deciding what the next project is to work on in the meantime while my agent has both The Wards Will Fall and Stormforks! Tomorrow I will be traveling, so probably no day note, but I'll be back Monday with more.
