Day Note: Sept 22nd

A tentative name for Book 2

Published by Oleander Craw in writing Share

Wow, feeling very inspired lately. Sinking back into the world of The Wards Will Fall feels like coming home. I know this place intimately, so it's easy to really get into the story without straining to think about worldbuilding and cultures, and the dreaded names of things.

The leaves are officially beginning to turn. The garden is fading and it's end of season. We harvested the last of the carrots and green beans this week, before processing everything for freezer storage. I'm looking forward to the garden not consuming my life the rest of the year.

I also got character art back and wowowowow.

I'm very happy with how this turned out!

FOCUS: Continuing to work on drafting Book 2 following The Wards Will Fall. Tentatively thinking of a working title of Mageruins. Going to stew on that. I was able to write 1019 words today! Seriously, it feels so good to get back into this world. I didn't quite get this first chapter finished, but I am okay with this. I'm really trying to focus on length of time spent writing versus quantity to prevent the dreaded burnout. I did get a scene finished and good headway into another scene. I'm confident I'll have this wrapped up soon.

PROCESS & SUCH: Started the morning early with writing sprints. Took a break around 9:30am to walk the dogs. I want to try to make this a daily habit around this time. It's good for all of us, and walks really get my mind humming with ideas in a way other activities don't. There's some science to this, and I'll try to dig up the link about memory and thought processing with different activities. But there's science for why movement like walking helps with creativity.

WATCHING: Watched two episodes the latest season of Taskmaster New Zealand. If you haven't watched any Taskmaster, it's a comedy gameshow where comedians compete against each other on silly tasks designed to make you laugh. The original started in the UK, but there's been spin offs to other countries. They're all good.

LISTENING: I discovered Passarella Death Squad through Tidal's Daily Mix. So today I put them on as background music while I wrote, which turned out to be an excellent idea. Absolutely perfect for getting in a writing groove.

READING: I read more of Night's Master, by Tanith Lee (Bookshop, Kobo, Amazon). Still loving how all these short stories interconnect to form a larger story. It's really beautiful narrative work, and I have a feeling I'm going to be thinking about this for awhile after I'm done with the book.

LINK: I like reality TV. I'm not ashamed to admit it. It's fun. Sometimes I like to switch my brain off and watch other people's drama, no matter how professional. My friend sent me a link to a reality TV game simulator, that is WAY more fun than it has any right to be. I played it once and was promptly voted out of the house about halfway through. I think this will be good for a brain break between sprints.

UP NEXT: More Chapter 1 of Mageruins! Fingers crossed I'll be able to finish the first chapter tomorrow.
