Day Note: Sept 21st

Derailed but keeping on

Published by Oleander Craw in writing Share

The last week ended up being extremely stressful, which really cut into my ability to write, especially over the weekend. Between car fixes, taking Dickens to the emergency vet and my credit card number being stolen, I struggled to get as much done as I would have hoped over the last few days.

But so it goes! All I can do is pick myself up and try again on a different day.

FOCUS: Today I worked more on Book 2 follow The Wards Will Fall (I really need a working title aaaaa! I'm thinking, I'm thinking). My focus was my current tentative chapter 1. I really wanted to finish this today. I did not finish, but made really good progress. Overall got 756 words down today, which I feel is pretty decent! It's the most I've written in a single day in quite some time.

PROCESS & SUCH: I used Scrivener to draft and Discord Sprinto to track sprints. I started 30 minute sprints at 5:45am, with the second at 6:30am and then a short break to feed the cats, do dishes and start coffee. Did two more sprints and then took a longer break to eat breakfast around 9:30am and read. Returned to sprinting at 11:30am. Got sidetracked by some paperwork, but did one more sprint before switching my focus to a social media marketing collab post. I used Canva and license free stock images from Unsplash and Pexels.

WATCHING: Rewatched The Meaning of Life by Monty Python last night. I think the financial office pirates get more relatable to me every year I get older.

LISTENING: Spent most of my time listening to my TWWF playlist, but also listened to the daily mix that Tidal served up. Found two songs I liked and added to my regular writing rotation, including As Above, So Below by In This Moment.

READING: I finished Our Crimson Cage by Ladz over the weekend (Author website). Delightfully crunchy and unsettling. Great lesbian menstrual horror. I then got back into Night's Master, by Tanith Lee (Bookshop, Kobo, Amazon). Huge fan of Tanith Lee. Her writing is gorgeous and has always inspired me as an author. This book has a lot of interconnected short stories, which I greatly enjoy.

LINK: Here is a blueberry cornbread cobbler recipe that my friend sent me, that I plan on making soon. I'm a huge fan of any sort of corn recipe and blueberry+corn is a top tier combo. So I bet it'll be really good.

UP NEXT: Tomorrow I plan to finish this first chapter of Book 2. I think if I focus I will be able to get it done. It's already 867 words and I'm aiming for perhaps 2500....so totally doable.
