I need to start setting an alarm in the morning. I've been off work because of my elbow injury, which means the obligation to be up at 5am feels less. But this is a trap! I need to get back into my routine.
Today I also wrapped up my monthly post where I yapped about the beauty of whales. I ate a lot of candy, did some chores and decidedly am NOT procrastinating book 2. I'm not procrastinating, YOU'RE procrastinating.
FOCUS: The Wards Will Fall book 2. It still feels weird to say this. Book 2. Book 2!!! I wrote this book in 2018 and it has been in my trunk since 2020. I wasn't sure I would have an opportunity to write book 2, or book 3, but here I am.
And that might be why I am having some issues navigating what I want from book 2 this week. This feels...big. But I know I just need to get into it and I'll be good to go, because I'm excited to get back to Maxwell and [redacted]'s story.
At any rate, I got about another 100 words done in the planning document and 270 words done of an experimental first chapter. There is a strong likelihood I scrap what I'm writing currently, but it's giving me a good launching point for figuring out how to get into the story.
PROCESS & SUCH: Woke up at 6:30am and immediately started writing. Started the morning with a 20 minute sprint which was successful, but then I didn't schedule any more and my focus wandered. I set up the Scrivener file for book 2, complicated by some issues with formatting I had to remember how to fix. Used Obsidian for more planning.
WATCHING: Last night we watched Practical Magic, one of my favorite fall watches. This movie never gets old for me. I love some of the random shots, like the clouds boiling as the sun moves across the sky in the car as Gillian drives. Or the whole soundtrack. Just a great movie!!
LISTENING: I put on the Daily Discovery playlist in Tidal, which didn't have anything that I found to be a standout winner. But it did have the song Ghost in Your Stereo by The Midnight, which is one of my favorite bands.
READING: Today I started Our Crimson Cage by Ladz, a Polish folk horror retelling of Carmilla (Author's page for order links).
LINK: Proving that we still know so little about our own planet, a new species of cat was recently discovered!
UP NEXT: Tomorrow I plan to get up at my normal 5:15am wake up time and GET TO WRITING. I want to get most of a chapter done for TWWF book 2.
