This week got away from me a little bit, fueled by some stressful medical appointment stuff and hitting my normal seasonal crash out (as well as A Lot of Feelings about the DEVOURING FORTUNE release on October 13th).
That said, I did get chapters and synopsis over to my agent for MAGE RUINS earlier this week, which was my big goal for this week. I have been taking out some of my restless pre-book release energy by finally tackling some of the organizational tasks around the house that I've been meaning to get to...forever.
I'm thinking this week is probably just going to be one of those spirally drifting weeks where I haunt my own house.
FOCUS: Continuing to draft as much as possible of MAGE RUINS while I wait on some feedback from my agent for STORMFORKS. My focus this week has been on Chapter 3, and honestly, it has been a little slow going now that the materials I needed to get out are finished. I always do better working on a deadline.
PROCESS & SUCH: Today I met up with a friend at a coffee shop to get some writing done. I got there a little early to try to focus, but was struggling. We ended up spending most of the time talking instead of writing, and honestly? Totally fine with that. The conversation was good and sometimes that is what the creative well needs.
WATCHING: October is a month for horror films, which means we have a subscription to Shudder for the month where we try to watch as many horror movies as possible. Last night we watched Buffet Infinity, a horror comedy about a sentient buffet taking over the world, as told through commercial snippets.
I cannot recommend this movie to everyone, but I can definitely recommend it to some. And frankly, I had a really great time. The first 2/3rds of the movie is pretty solid, though it falls a little flat near the end. I also thought it was a little long, but overall a super fun watch and I loved the funky narrative format.
PLAYING: Finished Control Resonant last night! Wow, what a game. I have some bigger thoughts on this and might make a post later about it. Going to enjoy the post-game content until I get bored and then put it away.
READING: Continuing to read THE ERSTWHILE TYLER KYLE by Steve Hugh Westenra (Kobo, Amazon, Barnes&Noble). This is a perfect read for the season. Small town horror ala Twin Peaks meets queer themes with a helping of humor.
LINK: My friend sent this youtube video to me, calling it 'the most Ollie coded video' and yes, they are correct.
UP NEXT: Tomorrow I'm hoping to make good progress on Chapter 3 of MAGE RUINS. I'd like to get this finished before the end of the week, if possible.
