It's the day before DEVOURING FORTUNE releases and honestly, I was surprised I got anything done today. This weekend ended up being a bit of a mess, as I was first hammered by Meta's AI deciding I was trying to sell things that didn't exist in my posts as well as restricting my account for the audacity to have a link tree in my links. And then Amazon canceled all my e-book pre-orders.
Suffice to say, I've had better weekends.
But I managed to rally today and actually get a good amount of writing done this morning. As always, the only thing anyone can do is keep going, even when techbro hell is determined to knock you down.
FOCUS: Today I wanted to finish another chapter of MAGE WILLOW (Previously working title MAGE RUINS...yes, I decided to change the working title). This is the second book following THE WARDS WILL FALL. While driving to a friend's wedding vow renewal this weekend, the official title for the second book came to me. At which point I nearly yelled, excitedly informed my partner, who promptly texted the name to me so I wouldn't forget. He knows me well.
At any rate, I won't be releasing this yet. I want to tease it officially later. So for now, it'll be a secret and the official working title is MAGE WILLOW. I am still noodling on a series name at the moment.
I wrote 920 words today, finishing Chapter 3. Pretty good for the day before a book release!
PROCESS & SUCH: I met up with a new author friend for coffee and writing this morning, and as always, this is such a good way for me to get stuff done. I really attribute that environment to getting so much done today, because my writing sprints before meeting up were rather slow and scattered.
WATCHING: October is the month for horror, so C and I have been in the thick of all sorts of horror watches. Last night we watched Disclosure Day, which was bad. Really Not Good. I was annoyed because the movie finally started getting good about 10 minutes before it ended, and then it ended on what felt like a midpoint in a speech. I cannot recommend watching unless you enjoy films that make you angry.
LISTENING: My listening has been on shuffle across all the songs I've liked, so it's been a random assortment of everything. I'm starting to put together a writing vibe playlist for MAGE WILLOW, which means I gotta let everything come across my ears and I'll add it to the playlist as seems appropriate.
PLAYING: I wrapped up Control Resonant over the weekend. Great stuff. Had a ton of fun with this game, and the way it ended made me optimistic that they have more planned for this series (or at the very least, some awesome DLC).
READING: About 75% through THE ERSTWHILE TYLER KYLE by Steve Hugh Westenra (Kobo, Amazon, Barnes&Noble). I appreciate how this book is getting weirder the further in I get. If you haven't read it yet, I do recommend it. It's currently on sale and also on Kobo Plus.
LINK: Jason Sanford publishes the Genre Grapevine, a wrap up of the latest news about what is going on in the publishing industry related to Science Fiction & Fantasy. Today he posted about the latest issues with Must Read Magazines, which recently bought out Asimov, Analog and Fantasy & Science Fiction. It's a real bummer to see all this go down, especially when it comes to short story magazines where so many big authors published and developed their careers.
UP NEXT: I'm not sure if I'll be getting any writing done tomorrow. I will need to upload the e-book of DEVOURING FORTUNE to Amazon since the pre-order listing was taken down. And then I will probably make a post about the release. My plan is to spend a social media free day with C to celebrate the release. The book is dedicated to him after all, and I can think of no better way to celebrate release day than spending it with the person who has supported me throughout my writing journey, distraction free.
