Midterm elections in the United States were on Tuesday. I ended up staying up until past midnight watching the results roll in, drinking prosecco and baking cookies at 11pm. Needless to say, I ended up waking up fairly late on Wednesday. I also started a new job on Wednesday that involved a decent amount of paperwork, dealt with the furnace/boiler getting its annual check-up (as the boiler serviceman said, "it's old", to which I replied "But it works!"...It's 70 years old, but still going strong), and met up with a friend in the evening.
I also ended up grabbing the haunted pram that mysteriously showed up on my dead end street corner after Halloween.
It has been calling to me this entire time...I couldn't resist. It wheeled home surprisingly well.
FOCUS: I am struggling a bit this week with focus. I started a new job which has involved a mountain of paperwork and licensing, plus I'm still trying to figure out how that's going to look with my current full-time job...anyway. I spent the day writing, which was nice. I got 560 words done, which seems low, but I finally figured out the approach I want for this beginning section of STORMFORKS so a lot of braining happened.
PROCESS & SUCH: Since I've been struggling with new opening chapters for STORMFORKS, I decided to try a new tact. Sprints are not working, and my progress is going to be slow. When this happens, I like to try to write while having something to tune out...so writing while a TV show I've watched a billion times is on.
Something about tuning out a TV show I've seen before really helps my brain focus and dampens the feeling that I have limited time to write. So I put on X-Files, which was the perfect tune out watch while working on STORMFORKS.
WATCHING: Watching X-Files and Grim as my two brain shut off shows at the moment.
READING: I currently don't have a read. Still considering what I want to start next. I'm considering rereading all the EARTHSEA books.
LINK: Here's something really, really cool. A stream of old TV shows from the 90s, pulled from old VHS tapes.
UP NEXT: Tomorrow I have a few hours of work plus a medical appointment, but then I'm going to see Wicker in the evening (delighted). I'm going to try to get as much drafting done on STORMFORKS as possible in the morning before the rest of my day is trashed.
