Getting ready for an overhaul

Published by Oleander Craw in writing Share

Meta restricted my Instagram account again for having a carrd link in my profile. I switched this to my website and the restriction cleared, but I find it incredibly ridiculous that Meta is becoming increasingly hostile to benign links. All of this seems like an excuse to more easily crawl people's pages for AI data mining, in my opinion.

As a reminder, as social media sites become increasingly hostile to users, the best way to stay in touch with me is by signing up for my newsletter. I'm fairly sure at this point that my account (especially on Meta) is at the mercy of erratic AI decisions without oversight, and may be taken down randomly at any moment.

You can unsubscribe to my newsletter at any time. I also offer the ability to control mail frequency from me with weekly, monthly and very occasional news emails (though heads up, with the serialized version of THE WARDS WILL FALL ending this month, I will be making some changes to my newsletter options).

FOCUS: Today my focus was on completing my outline for draft 2 of STORMFORKS. I think I'm basically there! There's a few question marks I have about a few things near the ending, but I think once I get into the rewrites I have planned these will get resolved.

Draft 2 is going to be a bigger developmental overhaul than I thought initially. I've been thinking really hard on what I want from it the last year...and as much as I wish I could keep the structure as is, there are some big changes I'm going to need to make.

PROCESS & SUCH: Obsidian continues to be my go to for organizing and planning. Also I looove the themes.

WATCHING: Sometimes I need TV shows I can put on that I have seen before and are not challenging. I'm currently in one of those eras with a lot of turbulence in my personal life related to finances, health and employment. As a result, I'm currently rewatching the TV show Grim, a fairytale police procedural.

The first season is fairly mediocre, which is about how I remembered. I remember it getting better by the second season, so we'll see. It does the job of being something that I can only half watch easily.

LISTENING: My friend sent me a link to Roach by Dead Poet Society and declared this a very STORMFORKS song. She was correct and I have promptly added it to my playlist.

READING: Almost done reading THERE IS NO ANTIMEMETICS DIVISION by qntm (Bookshop, Kobo, Amazon, Waterstones). I am finding that the story is spiraling out a bit here at the end in a way that I suspect will mean it doesn't quite stick the landing, but overall I have found this a very enjoyable read. If you're also experiencing a Control Resonant hangover and are searching for something to scratch that itch, this definitely does the job.

LINK: It is apparently cookie monster's birthday today. To celebrate, I will be making cookies. I think I may make these salted tahini honey chocolate chunk cookies that I have wanted to try for awhile.

UP NEXT: Tomorrow I start on draft 2 of STORMFORKS in earnest. I think it's going to be a fairly big overhaul from draft 1 with a bunch of new writing needed...but ultimately this is going to lead to a stronger story.
